Well, this is very interesting. It seems that Amazon has gone out and launched a game sales portal and no one was looking.

Of course, there’s something to be said about this portal. It’s definitely not quite Steam (although it would be interesting to integrate that in now wouldn’t it?) and the largest online retailer has mainly the same type of games that you’d see in that cheapie game aisle at Walmart. You know what I’m talking about…. the games that sell for ten dollars so you can get your quick fix of Mahjong.

So far? It’s not as impressive as they’d have you realize. But it could be the next big step for Amazon. I mean, just take a look at how they’ve grown out their digital libraries in the last couple of years for music and movies. This definitely could be a huge winner for not only the consumer, but also Amazon. From my perspective? I think that Amazon is doing the right thing as long as they can keep it up. The moment they start offering the better games as a downloadable for cheaper will be the day that this online retail giant will become the Internet’s Walmart for games.
