Wow. Finished the entire game over the weekend without running one of those marathon nights.

And I must say… it’s a lot shorter than I expected. The game itself has pretty good gameplay, and if you have even the slightest bit of OCD like myself, then you’ll go after the absolute multitude of trophies that this game offers. Most of the play is very much over-the-shoulder type shooting like in RE4, but I don’t actually believe it’ll be as much of a seller as RE4.

Pros:
A couple of great things of RE5 is that of the co-op mode. I seriously recommend you NOT to turn it on if you’re just learning the game since you could definitely have some serious lamers come in just to ruin it for you. While you could probably do without the help in some places, partners that die effect stats and the ones that run off so that you can’t finish a level aren’t worth a darn. Once you’ve beaten it? Get someone to play with you since it’s actually pretty interesting since players actually shoot better than the AI does.

Another wonderful thing is the CG cut scenes. World of advice: DO NOT PUT DOWN THE CONTROLLER. There were a multitude of them and I was actually reminded of the MGS4 since there are actions that you would perform during the cut scenes to make it more … user interactive. Very pretty, and some of the scenes and cheesy dialogue even had some of the MGS4 flavor.

Cons:
The length of gameplay was a little bit sorry. I probably spent about an hour or two a chapter, and I still beat it in about twelve or so hours. This was taking my time and going through the game looking for every little bit, trying to gain bigger and better things, and not racing through it trying to get on the leaderboard. If it was for the latter, then I’d be looking to run the map in the teen minutes since that’s what it takes. Would have loved a longer game since if I remember correctly, RE4 did take a a fair length of time just to get through it.

Something about Chris Redfield’s arms that really screams drug use. I mean, there is no way to get biceps like that unless you’re taking them ‘roids. And that was actually somewhat annoying the entire time. Let’s face it though. Through the years, Ninja Gaiden has been doing the same. Ever look at the games and literature? Even the boys from Street Fighter have bulked up over the decade.

Thoughts:
I did like the fact that Sheva wasn’t some amazingly gorgeous woman fighting in a bikini. Nothing wrong with that, but gear that is fitting towards the environment actually does mean a whole lot when it comes to holding an accurate standing. Yes, I know that if you take a shot in the head, you won’t be getting up in real life. But looks are still important.

As far as the racism thing that’s been going on for a while about this game…. I can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong with the complainers. One of the main characters (Sheva) is black, and Africa really isn’t cared about as much on the political international level front. It actually doesn’t seem far fetched at all if some big pharmaceutical company had gone in and started testing on human subjects there and unfortunately a lot of it would be covered up due to government instability. Overall, I found the entire “racism” thing almost laughable since there wasn’t much to go on. Let’s not forget that the previous Resident Evil games, the player shoots “white” zombies. And you don’t hear white people running around screaming bloody murder.

There is some talk currently about Capcom actually selling their DLC for RE5 for $5USD. I can see how that would be annoying to gamers since retail, this runs sixty dollars any way you dice it (unless you take advantage of some pretty great deals that are on and off). It’s really all online game play and unless Capcom introduced new content or gameplay, I probably won’t be throwing my money into the bag there. What can I say… it’s not exactly worth it from my perspective.

Overall? I give Capcom applause for a great game. It might not run the same type of numbers that RE4 does since I don’t think Chris actually has the same pull as Leon does and the remake and ports to multiple platforms really helped those numbers out where RE5 doesn’t have that luxury. But it definitely was satisfying and I enjoyed it immensely.

So if you haven’t already, pick up Resident Evil 5 for the PS3 or the Xbox 360.

I agree with you, i finished the game in about 10 hours, when i played resident evil 4 i spent a lot more time during my first playthrough.

i dont know, but i feel a bit disappointed, there are just not enough new things in RE5 that i hoped for.. :(

it still looks awesome and its cool..but its a 7/10 for me i think ;)

I agree. Fantastic game, but it just doesn’t quite compare with RE4. I was also somewhat disappointed although I’m playing it through on Veteran and Amateur now to get all the things I didn’t collect before.

I think that for the money? MGS4 was a much better produced piece of work. There’s so much content there, that you actually are amazed that there’s that much for sixty dollars. This one was pretty typical of a good game but seemed a bit too short as do every single game that actually tries its hand at FPS style story lines.
